Elton John

Sir Elton John, CBE was born on 25th March 1947 and is from Pinner, Middlesex. Known for his flamboyant, colourful and veracious lust for life, he has worked with lyricist Bernie Taupin and producer Gus Dudgeon for over 40 years, securing over 30 top albums.

Elton John has written a phenomenal amount of material over the years and first tasted international success with the memorable “Your Song”.

In 1974, early in his career, Elton John already achieved a major accomplishment by performing on John Lennon's comeback single “Whatever Gets You Through The Night, and later went on to perform with John Lennon in New York at Madison Square Gardens.

In the 1970s Elton John went on to work with other lyricists and pumped out the hits: “You Ready For Love”, “Tiny Dancer”, “My Father's Gun”, and plenty of artists from Tupac to Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman's duet of “Your Song” (Moulin Rouge).

Reunited with Bernie Taupin in the ‘80s, Elton John had success with his album 21 At 33 and then the singles “Blue Eyes” and Lennon tribute “Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)”and the much loved “I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues” and “I'm Still Standing”.

In the ‘90s, Elton John established himself as a worldwide pop star in the UK and in the US; setting up the Elton John AIDS Foundation and releasing the double platinum album The One.

Elton Jon went on to work with the infamous Tim Rice on the Disney classic – The Lion King, earning him his first Grammy Award, and then later he worked with Rice again on the Broadway hit Aida, and Billy Elliot The Musical which was hugely successful and received critical acclaim from both UK and US press.

With major highs, came the lows. Elton John lost two of his greatest friends: the fashion designer Gianni Versace and Diana, Princess of Wales. While the world mourned the loss of two the world’s most loved and well known celebrities, Elton John was once upon thrust into the limelight – for the saddest occasion. He composed (with Bernie Taupin) “Candle in the Wind 1997” which reflected the love, sadness and the world’s mood. It sold a staggering 33 million copies and in turn, earned Elton John a knighthood for his "services to music and charitable services".

Past the sadness came a new beginning for Elton John in the new millennium. In 2004 Elton John took up a residency with The Red Piano show at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. Art Direction was given by the overtly extroverted art director, David LaChapelle. Elton John tickets for the show originally surpassed expectations and were increased by popular demand with a massive 241 shows which finished in April 2009. A DVD of The Red Piano was released worldwide in 2008.

His 2001 album Songs From The West Coast gave him another smash hit single: “I Want Love”, Peachtree Rd (2005) included songs from Billy Elliot (The Musical) and in 2002, he was honoured by the Royal Academy Music. Other nominations include: Best British Male Artist Brit Award 1991; induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, 1994; numerous Grammy Awards and a plethora of Ivor Novello Awards over his phenomenal career.

In September 2005 Elton John re-released Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy with s new deluxe version. In concert Elton John would perform for hours and later collaborated on the Vampire novels, Lestat for the theatre in 2006.

In 2006, Elton John released an autobiographical album The Captain & The Kid and later released his entire catalogue spanning nearly 500 songs and was available to download legally.

Elton John celebrated his 60th birthday with a 60th concert in 2007 at Madison Square Garden, New York, United States.

Further nominations came with a staggering 10 Tonys for Billy Elliot The Musical as it smashed box offices worldwide. Elton John performed at the O2 Arena, London on New Year’s Eve with a TV show of the Red Piano show. He performed at nearly 100 concerts across the world, which included shows at Royal Albert Hall (in aid of the Royal Academy of Music).

During 2010 Elton toured with Billy Joel, with Ray Cooper, and with his band: Bob Birch (bass), Kim Bullard (keyboards), Davey Johnstone (guitars), John Mahon (percussion) and Nigel Olsson (drums). He released The Union (new album) and toured the US.

Elton John has continued tour throughout 2011-2012 across the world. He performed a new show The Million Dollar Piano across Las Vegas and recorded a new album The Diving Bell in 2012. He also collaborated with Australian electronic producers Pnau.

Topping 2012, Elton John performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations at Buckingham Palace.
