Elvis Costello
Elvis Costello (born Declan Patrick MacManus) is an English-Irish musician who was born 25th August, 1954 Paddington, west London.
His career has spanned over 30 years and his music has taken on many guises; from punk rock, to modern takes on classics like “She”, originally written by Charles Aznavour and the classic new-wave track “Oliver’s Army”.
Taking on a number of low-paid jobs while his career began to flourish, Elvis Costello formed his band, The Attractions which consisted of Steve Nieve (born Steve Nason; piano), Bruce Thomas (bass guitar), and Pete Thomas. They were to perform together until 1984 when the band split. They reunited briefly, but officially split for good after their Dublin tour in 1996, with only Pete Thomas and Steve Nieve remaining to work with his then backing band – The Attractions for occasional gigs and tours.
Notable albums are: Armed Forces (1979) reaching number 2 in the UK Album Charts and going Platinum across the UK, USA and Canada, Get Happy!! (1980), Spike (1987) and Brutal Youth (1994).
The 2000’s were changing times for Elvis Costello and The Attractions. Inducted in The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2003, by 2005, Elvis Costello embarked on a series of less than successful tours vowing never to return to the UK but opted to play in the U.S.A where his popularity remained constant.
