Fear Factory
LA based death metal band Fear Factory is formed of Burton C. Bell – lead vocals (1989–present), Dino Cazares – guitar (1989–2002, 2009–present), Matt DeVries – bass (2012–present) and Mike Heller – drums (2012–present).The band members have changed constantly since the band first came together in 1989.
Fear Factory have played at many of the heavy metal music festivals including Ozzfest as well as the inaugural Gigantour. The band was first called Ulceration before they changed their name with their music incorporating all types of nu metal techniques.
Fear Factory originally recorded Concrete in 1991, although it took over 10 years to be released, as a dispute for the record label meant it was pushed aside. Soul of a New Machine (1992) was never commercially successful but led the band to tour extensively across the US and Europe with other metal bands such as Cannibal Corpse and Cathedral.
Demanufacture (1995) put Fear Factory on the road to success and incorporated various keyboard techniques and was used in the video game Test Drive 5 and the song "Zero Signal" used on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack (1995).
Fear Factory built up their reputation and fan-base by touring with heavy metal giants Black Sabbath, Megadeth and Iron Maiden and their album reached the BillBoard 200. Obsolete followed in 1998 and saw their sound develop into more progressive metal and alternative metal fusion.
Fear Factory called Obsolete a concept album and went on tour with Slayer and Rammstein in 1999. Further success came with their fourth effort Digimortal which made it on the Top 40 on the Billboard Album Chart and Top 20 in Canada and Australia. Their tune "Invisible Wounds" was used in the film Resident Evil.
In 2004 Fear Factory released Archetype (2004) before they shortly went on a hiatus. By 2009, the band members had reunited with Burton C. Bell and ex-guitarist Dino Cazares coming together for reunion and becoming more successful than ever by supporting Metallica touring across Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
In June 2012, Fear Factory brought out their latest album The Industrialist.
