Grizzly Bear
Grizzly Bear is a Brooklyn based indie rock band consisting of Edward Droste (vocals, guitar, omnichord, keyboard), Daniel Rossen (vocals, guitar, banjo, keyboards), Chris Taylor (bass, backing vocals, various instruments, producer) and Christopher Bear (drums, backing vocals, glockenspiel).
Their music is a fusion of folk, pop, rock and psychedelia. The band formed in 2004 and was named after a nickname of an ex of Ed Droste’s. Their debut album Horn of Plenty (2004) received widespread critical acclaim and this led on to a remix album in 2005.
The second album Yellow House was released on Warp records in 2006 which was also well received by the press. Indie dance band CSS and Band of Horses covered songs by Grizzly Bear as well.
By the late 2000s Grizzly Bear had progressed so much that they opened up for Radiohead on their North American tour, receiving praise from Radiohead’s guitarist quoting them as his “favourite band”.
Veckatimest (May 2009) their third album, reached #8 on the Billboard 200 Chart and was more commercially successful than Yellow House.
In 2011 Grizzly Bear announced their next album would be called Shields.
