Interpol 2015 UK tour
Updated: 18 July 2014
Interpol are heading to the UK in 2015 to play just three shows as part of their European tour.
The Interpol tour will take the band from NYC to London and Manchester. The trio are set to release their fifth studio album, El Pintor, in September 2014.
Interpol were formed by Paul Banks, Daniel Kessler, Carlos Dengler and Greg Drugy in New York City at the tail-end of the 90’s when the UK music industry kept largely occupied finding bands to rejuvenate the dying Britpop scene.
Interpol rejected both, the flowery niceness and laddish culture that Britpop had transformed into from the outset. Instead the band crafted a stark gloomy, urban sound with striking visuals that echoed the post-punk style of bands, such as Gang of Four or Joy Division, who Interpol are often compared to.
Interpol offered alongside The Strokes or Yeah Yeah Yeah’s a fresh new sound and were picked up by the British music press and quickly gained a large fanbase as part of the post-punk revival that flooded the UK in the early noughties.
Interpol’s debut, Turn On The Bright Lights, was an instant success with fans and the media. Follow-up records, Antics and Our Love To Admire built upon the success and catapulted the band to the top of the charts. Festival headline slots and tour support slots for bands such as U2 or The Cure followed, helping the band gain even more fans.
The current Interpol line-up consist of original members Paul Bank (vocals), Daniel Kessler (guitar) and Sam Fogarino (drums), who joined in 2000.
Interpol released their self-titled fourth studio album in 2010 and they are currently working on a new album, which will be their first without original bass player, Carlos Dengler.
