Jessie J was tipped as one of the artists to look out for in 2011, and Jessie J’s career did indeed took off like a rocket. The singer/songwriter from London was named winner of the prestigious “BBC Sound of 2011,” scooped a BRITS Awards in the category “Critic’s Choice” and is now topping the MOBO Awards shortlists with five nominations in the categories “Best Song,” “Best Album,” “Best Newcomer,” “Best Video” and “Best UK Act.”
Jessie J’s infectious debut single, “Do It Like A Dude” bombed into the UK charts on #5 and the controversial video has clocked over 8 million views since the single’s launch in November 2010. The anticipated second single is often a hurdle for up-and-coming artists, but Jessie J’s "Price Tag (featuring B.o.B.)” has matched the success of “Do It Like A Dude” and claimed the charts pole position, giving Jessie J two Top-10 singles at the same time.
Back in February, the Jessie J fever built up to the extend that her record label, Island Records was forced to move forward the release of her debut “Who We Are.”
Island Records has been responsible for launching the careers of such diverse musical heavyweights and legends as U2, Bob Marley, Florence and the Machine and Wolfmother and is currently also home to Justin Bieber, Fall Out Boy, Bon Jovi and The Killers.
While the fans are waiting to hear Jessie’s debut, the shooting star is already talking about her plans for possible collaborations following the release of “Who We Are.” Jessie revealed X Factor winner, Leona Lewis to be the artists she would most love to record a Christmas duet with.
