Kasabian are a five member rock band from Leicestershire. The band formed in 1997 and is compromised of vocalist Tom Meighan, backing vocalist Sergio Pizzorno and bassist Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews drummer and guitarist Jay Mehler (joined 2010).
Kasabian are best known for their hits “Club Foot “(2004) and “Fire” (June 2009). They have received numerous awards over the years, notably winning Best British Group in the 2010 Brit Awards, Best Album for West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum in the Q Awards 2009 and Best Act In The World Today in the Q Awards 2010. Kasabian have also received three NME Awards for Best Live Band 2007 and Best Album and Best Album Artwork 2010.
Their debut album self-titled Kasabian, peaked at number 4 in the UK Albums Top 75. This included the hit “Club Foot”. This was followed up with their second successful album Empire in 2006 which was a success in over eight countries, peaking at number one in the UK Albums Top 75. The single "Shoot the Runner" reached 17 in the UK Single Chart.
Band differences led to guitarist and keyboardist at the time, Christopher Karloff to leave Kasabian; however the next album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum proved to be another smash success with the longest-staying album in the charts, remaining 143 weeks and reaching number one in the UK Albums Top 75.
Kasabian‘s newest album Velociraptor! was released in September 2011 and also got the number one position for one week in the UK Album Charts. Kasabian have played on the closing day of the Isle of Wight Festival in June 2011 and headlined rock festival Rockness in 2011.
