About Kate Bush

Despite being reclusive for much of her career, Kate Bush has managed to be one of the most successful and influential solo female artists of her time.

Kate Bush was born in 1958 in Kent and her music career started at just 16 when she signed to EMI Records.

Rather than releasing material straight away Kate Bush studied dance, mime, voice and continued to write. In January 1978 she released her debut single Wuthering Heights, which has gone on to become one of, if not the most, well-known songs of her career.

The song was released in 1978 and worked its way to the No.1 spot in the UK charts. Kate Bush was 19 when the song was released. Her debut album, The Kick Inside, which was a collection of material she had written from 15 onwards and contained Wuthering Heights, soon followed.

Her second album, Lionheart, did not match the success of her first album. Kate Bush is said to regret the rush of the album.

In 1979 Kate Bush embarked on her first, and what was to be only, tour. The Kate Bush concerts took place throughout Britain and Europe with the tour lasting for six weeks. The shows included 17 costume changes, lots of dancing and complex lighting.

However, the tour proved to be incredibly draining and since she has stayed away from many live appearances. Kate Bush has performed some one-off shows since the 1979 tour but mainly for charitable events.

Over the years Kate Bush went on to release a further nine albums, numerous singles and several EPs. One of her most notable was Babooshka that was released in 1980. It became her first Top Five single since Wuthering Heights. Kate Bush’s last album, 50 Words For Snow, was released in November 2011.

In March 2014 Kate Bush announced that she would perform her first series of live concerts since 1979. She will perform at London’s Hammersmith Apollo for 15 nights in August and September 2014. Kate Bush tickets will be in high demand as it is a rare chance for fans to see the elusive star.
