About Kylie Minogue
Kylie Minogue has sold more than 70 million records worldwide, landed seven No.1 singles in the UK and received numerous awards including a Grammy and several BRITs.
Starting out as Charlene Robinson in Neighbours, Kylie moved into music in 1987 with her first album Kylie. She scored No.1s in her native Australia and all over Europe with the first two singles: Locomotion and I Should Be So Lucky.
The ‘90s brought another change. Kylie left the production team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who penned her early songs, and went on to release Confide in Me in 1994. It proved to be a success putting her back at the top of the charts.
She then went on to duet with fellow Australian Nick Cave with the song Where the Wild Roses Grow, which gained her a lot of credibility musically. Her next album, Impossible Princess, was a success in Australia but did not do very well in the UK.
Kylie: Disco queen
The next time we saw Kylie she was wearing a pair of gold hot pants in the video for Spinning Around, which was from the album Light Years. Kylie had returned with a dance-influenced sound that put her right back on top of her game.
In 2001 Kylie released the album Fever with the single Can’t Get You Out of My Head. It proved to be a huge success and reached No.1 in over 40 countries around the world. The album was her first to be released in the US and saw her gain recognition in America, which she had previously not been able to do.
Kylie: The showgirl
The following years she released Body Language (2003) and Ultimate Kylie (2004). The latter was the catalyst for her world-wide Showgirl tour.
However, the scheduled Showgirl: The Greatest Hits Tour had to be postponed when Kylie was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery and chemotherapy in 2005 and, speaking out about it later, described it as “a nuclear bomb”.
In November 2006 she resumed her Showgirl tour with a new name, Showgirl: The Homecoming Tour, which received rave reviews. Kylie Minogue concerts proved why she is a global superstar. The tour included seven different acts, a huge stage production and exquisite costumes.
After the tour, Kylie released her tenth album, X (2007), received an OBE from Queen Elizabeth for her services to music in 2008 and then went on to release Aphrodite (2010) and A Kylie Christmas (2010).
In 2012 Kylie Minogue celebrated 25 years in the music industry by releasing The Best Of Kylie Minogue; Timebomb, her single; K25, the singles collection; and The Abbey Road Sessions. Kylie also embarked on her Anit-Tour that saw her perform in smaller venues singing B-Sides and rarities. Kylie tickets sold out in 10 minutes for shows in London and Manchester.
Kylie changed management in 2013 and signed to Roc Nation. She released her latest album Kiss Me Once on 17 March 2014.
