Kylie Minogue
Kylie is back with a new show and her first UK dates in 3 years! The ‘Aphrodite - Les Folies’ Tour arrives at Glasgow SECC (28 & 29/03), Manchester MEN Arena (01 & 02 April) and London The O2 (07 & 08/03) and promises to take the audience on an “euphoric journey of joy, excitement and glamour.”
Starting out as Charlene Robinson from Neighbours, Kylie Minogue moved into music in 1987 with her first album ‘Kylie.’ She scored number ones in her native Australia and all over Europe with the first two singles, ‘Locomotion’ and ‘I Should Be So Lucky.’ She went on to have 13 top ten singles in the UK but then when she tried a more mature approach to music her sales plummeted.
She decided to leave the pop-factory of Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who penned her early songs in 1992 and released her first single as an independent artist, ‘Confide in Me.’
It proved to be a success and gain her, her first number one in years. She then went on to duet with fellow Australian, Nick Cave with song ‘Where the Wild Roses Grow’ which gained her a lot of credibility musically.
Her next album, ‘Impossible Princess’ was a success in Australia but not the UK, the next time we saw Kylie she was wearing a pair of gold hot pants in the video for ‘Spinning Around.’ Kylie had returned with a dance-influenced sound which put her right back on top of her game. ‘Light Years’ the album was a great success, producing a number of successful singles. Her single ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ reached number one in over 40 countries all over the world, and saw her gain recognition in America, which she had previously not been able to do.
She then scheduled her ‘Showgirl’ tour but had to postpone it because she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She underwent surgery and chemotherapy and in 2005, speaking out about it later describing it as ‘a nuclear bomb.’ In November 2006 she resumed her ‘Showgirls: The Homecoming Tour’ with rave reviews.
Kylie Minogue’s next album was ‘X’ it was seen as her comeback, it initially wasn’t received as well as anticipated but eventually did well and earned her Brit Award for ‘Best international Solo Female.’ The next Kylie Minogue tour, KylieX2008 would be her most expensive to date, costing £10million.
