Lily Allen
Musically spawned from a huge following on MySpace which she created in 2005, Lily Allen has since enjoyed success in music, film and television.
Being the daughter of actor, Keith Allen and film producer, Alison Owen she was brought up in a creative environment and was very musically aware. She played piano, amongst other instruments and sang to a grade 8 level. She left school at the age of fifteen, and used her father’s connections to get signed to London Records label, but they did not release any of her material.
Her MySpace page gained a huge following, where Lily Allen posted demos, many of which appeared on her first album, ‘Alright Still,’ which was produced by Mark Ronson and Greg Kurstin. Lily Allen would later release a cover of the Kaiser Chiefs ‘Oh My God’ for Ronson’s 2007 album ‘Version’.
‘Smile’ was her first UK single and it headed straight to the top of the charts jettisoning her and her ska influenced sound into the mainstream. The album reached number two and by early 2009 it had sold just under a million copies.
Allen returned in February 2009 with her second album ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ which also sent her straight to number one. ‘The Fear’ and ‘It’s Not Fair’ were the first two singles, the first heading to the top of the charts, the second she performed at Karl Lagerfield’s Paris Fashion Week show in 2009.
Lily Allen also starred in his ad campaigns for Chanel the same year. Lily vows she will retire from music but she plays at the Wireless Festival supporting Jay-Z in London and Benicassim in Valencia.
