Martha Wainwright
Martha Wainwright was born on 8th May 1976 and is from Montreal.
She has been producing pop and folk music along with her family of successful family of musicians and singers including the well known pop and opera singer Rufus Wainwright, father Loudon Wainwright III and mother singer-songwriter Kate McGarrigle.
Influenced from an early age by her family, Martha Wainwright appeared on her mum’s and aunt’s album The McGarrigle Hour and from that, moved to New York to pursue her dream in the music business.
In 2002 Martha Wainwright brought out her eponymous EP and single “Factory” later on in the year. While she was doing this she contributed to fellow musicians Snow Patrol as well contributing to her brother’s songs.
During 2004 Martha Wainwright took part in Leonard Cohen’s tribute concert and appeared in the massive blockbuster film “The Aviator” which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and also featured her brother and father as well.
Martha Wainwright received recognition from fellow singer-songwriter Norah Jones, who said that she was one of the “best things she heard all year” and The Sunday Times praised “Bloody Mother Fu*king As*hole” as one of the top songs in 2005.
Martha Wainwright went onto produce two tracks for independent film P.S and carried on working with other top artists such as Cyndi Lauper and Van Morrison.
A further two albums followed I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too (2008) and Sans Fusils, Ni Souliers, à Paris: Martha Wainwright's Piaf Record (2009).
