About Miley Cyrus
The fast talking, controversy starting, Nashville born star first found fame in the hit Disney TV show, Hannah Montana. Born Destiny Hope Cyrus, her constant smiles earned her the nickname Smiley, which soon stuck and changed to Miley.
The star, who was born in November 1992, has been steeped in music from a young age with her Dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, recording the big hit Achy Breaky Heart the year she was born. Miley also has the country icon Dolly Parton as her godmother, so a career in music was not unexpected.
It was in 2006 when Miley Cyrus burst onto screens playing the pop star Hannah Montana. However, she first made her acting debut in 2003 where she starred with her father in the show Doc. Following her performance in Doc, she appeared in Big Fish, the film by Tim Burton, in a small, supporting role.
Hannah Montana, in which she starred with her father, launched the young star's singing career. The instant popularity of the show meant that an album was soon released.
In October 2006, the soundtrack, that included a duet with her father, was released and featured eight songs from the TV show and five originals. The following year Miley Cyrus embarked on a Best of Both Worlds tour that followed on from the album Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus.
The tour and album were the first signs of the star breaking away from her character. The following year the film version of the tour was released but it also saw Miley release her debut album Breakout. Breakout topped the Billboard charts.
2009 brought more Hannah Montana success with Hannah Montana: The Movie hitting theatres; accompanying it was the soundtrack with the lead single The Climb.
The Climb gave Miley her first multiplatinum hit and the album Time Of Our Lives followed, which was a shorter album but spawned the hit Party in the U.S.A. Can’t Be Tamed followed in 2010, which was the start of an edgier Cyrus. She also found time to film The Last Song, which was released in the same year.
Miley Cyrus after Disney
Hannah Montana spanned over four seasons from 2006 to 2011 and was the platform that launched Miley.
Miley Cyrus starred in two films, LOL and So Undercover, which were both released in 2012. However, despite her success as Hannah Montana neither film performed as well as hoped.
Breaking away from the Disney image Miley went under a radical make over where she cut her long brown locks off and opted for a bleach-blonde pixie crop. She then had a guest appearance in Two and a Half Men before releasing her latest album in 2013 named Bangerz. Her return to music saw Miley embracing her new image and style. The album saw Miley collaborate with the likes of Pharrell Williams and Will.i.am.
Since the release of Bangerz, Miley has been a constant in the headlines with controversial performances and her new sexualised image. Miley performed with Robin Thicke during this year’s VMAs. The performance caused a media storm with Miley ‘twerking’ on the, the Blurred Lines star.
Since then, she’s hosted the hugely popular American television show, Saturday Night Live, and announced a Bangerz tour for 2014.
