Refused is a Swedish hardcore punk band from Umeå. The band formed since 1991 and consists of Dennis Lyxzén – vocals, Kristofer Steen - guitar, bass, drums, Jon Brännström - guitars, samples and David Sandström - drums, guitar, melodic.
Originally starting off like most punk bands, Refused performed in front of small crowds in basements around Sweden before they released This Just Might Be... the Truth (1994), Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent (1996) and The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombination in 12 Bursts (1998).
The band went onto tour for seven years before they parted ways in 1998. During this time, Kristofer got his degree from the Swedish opera academy, Jons medical studies began drawing to a close and Dennis and David started a new hardcore band together. Finally, after a decade and a half hiatus, Kristofer picked up the guitar again and David want to play the drums again and this led to the band reforming in 2012.
The Refused secret was out when rumours began circulating that Refused were going to play at 2012 Coachella Festival in Palm Springs - which they did.
