The Boys In-depth Biography

A product of the first wave of British punk, the Boys} formed in London in 1976. The group was founded by guitarist "Honest" John Plain}, a factory worker who recruited fellow employees Duncan "Kid" Reid} on vocals and bass and Jack Black} on drums; they were later joined by guitarist Matt Dangerfield} and keyboardist Casino Steel}, a onetime member of the Hollywood Brats}. After touring in support of John Cale}, in 1977 the Boys} debuted with the single "I Don't Care," followed later in the year by their self-titled debut LP. Upon the release of 1978's Alternative Chartbusters}, the group reconvened in a recording studio in Steel's} native Hell, Norway to cut 1979's To Hell with the Boys}. Steel} left the band in 1980, and after one final LP, 1981's Boys Only}, they split up; among their recorded legacy was also 1980's irreverent Christmas Album}, recorded as their alter ego the Yobs}. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
