The Fratellis

Glaswegian indie-rockers The Fratellis consists of vocalist and guitarist Jon Fratelli (born John Lawler), bass guitarist Barry Fratelli (born Barry Wallace), and drummer and backing vocalist Mince Fratelli (born Gordon McRory).

Formed in 2005, The Fratellis named themselves after the characters in the cult ‘80s children’s film, The Goonies.

The band started out by playing at O’Henry’s bar in Glasgow, and gained notoriety after receiving airplay across Glasgow’s indie radio station Scotland's Beat 106 which later became XFM Scotland.

The band also received vital exposure by appearing in a two page feature in indie rock magazine, the NME who hailed The Fratellis as “the best new band in Britain”.

The Fratellis’ debut album Costello Music was released in 2006 and went straight to #2 on the UK Album Chart and remained in the chart for three weeks. The album contained the smash hit festival anthem “Chelsea Dagger” and “Henrietta”, which led to the band touring with other festival favourites, Kasabian. The band’s popularity was evident as they toured the UK festival circuit, performing at Glastonbury, T in the Park 2007, as well as supporting The Police on their Reunion Tour in summer 2007.

Edgy in Brixton (2007) was The Fratellis’ first live DVD which was recorded at the O2 Academy Brixton, and featured B-sides and new single “Pretty Like a Girl” as well as T in the Park 2007 highlights.

The Fratellis’ next released their second album Here We Stand in 2008 and also hired two new touring members, guitarist Robin Peringer and keyboardist Will Foster. For unknown reasons, Robin left the tour and Will was left to play both instruments after the band played at the Teenage Cancer Trust in 2008. Here We Stand reached #5 on the UK Album Chart and was certified Gold (for over 100,000 sales) and contained the singles "Mistress Mabel", "Look Out Sunshine!" and "A Heady Tale".

In 2009, The Fratellis further toured across Australia and Japan and performed at the Island Records 50th anniversary show and at Hop Farm Festival. After the Hop Farm Festival show, the band decided to go on an indefinite hiatus. Jon Fratelli went on to pursue projects and started a new band Codeine Velvet Club. Barry Fratellis joined the band The Twang, and Mince Fratellis played in a heavy metal band, but later collaborated with Jon Fratellis with his new band.

After almost a three year hiatus, The Fratellis performed together to raise money for The Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund, a charity that raises money for young children suffering from cancer, and announced their reunification in June 2012.
