The Stone Roses formed in the 1983, released their first single in 1985 and their landmark debut, the eponymously titled "The Stone Roses," saw the light of day in 1989.
Alongside bands such as James and The Inspiral Carpets, The Stone Roses were the poster boys of the then burgeoning “Madchester” scene. Their songs became anthems of a generation and have been one of the most influential indie bands.
The follow-up album, “Second Coming” was released in 1994 but the first cracks were quickly showing. First, drummer Reni left the band before frictions between Ian Brown and guitarist, John Squire led to Squire’s walk out in 1995. The band recruited Aziz Ibrahim on guitar but after a shambolic performance at the 1996 Reading Festival, the remaining band member decided to pull the plug.
John Squire formed a new band, the short-lived The Seahorses, Mani famously joined Primal Scream as a full time member on bass guitar and Ian Brown embarked on a successful solo career.
Speculations of a reunion have been making the rounds ever since the band broke up but it wasn’t until John Squire and Ian Brown finally met and talked for the first time in 16 years, that a Stone Roses comeback finally seemed possible.
Finally after such a long period of time, The Stone Roses are back on tour again!
