Hailing from New York Vampire Weekend have proved to be a favourite on the UK festival scene after playing Glastonbury and T in the Park this summer and headlining the Latitude festival. The band formed whilst studying at Columbia University they produced their first album after they graduated. They took their name from singer’s Ezra Koenig amateur film of the same name, their manager is Ian Montone also the manager of the White Stripes. Their self titled first album was released in 2008 and spawned songs ‘A-Punk’ and ‘Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, ’ it peaked at number 15 in the UK album chart and 17 in the US Billboard chart. ‘A Punk’ was ranked 4th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the best songs of 2008.
Their much anticipated second offering, ‘Contra’ was released in January 2010, the first single from it was ‘Cousins.’ It reached number 3 in the UK album chart and hit number on the US Billboard Chart. Vampire Weekend toured in February 2010 as the supporting band for electro band Fan Death on their UK and European tour. The video for their second single from the album, ‘Giving up the Gun’ features cameos from Joe Jonas, Lil Jon and Jake Gyllenhaal.
