England Rugby

The Rugby season returns, as England take on South Africa in the Autumn Internationals, before meeting Wales in the Six Nations tournament.

2016 - 2017 Matches
Updated: 22 September 2016

The Autumn Internationals will see England take on South Africa in November at Twickenham. In Februrary 2017, England will meet Wales in Cardiff as part of the Six Nations Tournament.

As the birthplace of rugby, England has a long proud tradition of producing heroic English national rugby teams. Although William Webb Ellis is frequently credited with inventing rugby in 1823 it wasn’t until 1871 that the first international England rugby match was played.

The predecessor to Six Nations rugby tournament was the Home Nations tournament. Founded in 1883, the contest saw England v Scotland, England v Ireland, and England v Wales become annual rugby fixtures. The first England v France rugby match did not take place until 1910 when the tournament became known as the Five Nations rugby tournament.

The first Six Nations rugby tournament took place in 2000 with England v Italy. England competed in the first Rugby World Cup in 1987, and the England Rugby team won its first World cup trophy in 2003.

The home of English rugby is Twickenham Stadium. Six Nations England Rugby tickets, England Rugby World Cup tickets, and England Autumn Internationals tickets are always in heavy demand, so be sure to secure your international England rugby tickets quickly on GET ME IN!
