National Television Awards
The National Television Awards are voted for by the general public. The categories are for the ‘Most Popular’ contestant rather than the ‘Best’ because of how the awards are voted for. It is being held at the O2 Arena London on Wednesday 26 January 2011. The awards are broadcast by ITV and have been running since 1995. The first ceremony was presented by Eamonn Holmes and held at the Wembley Conference Centre. The following year the venue of the ceremony was changed to The Royal Albert Hall and Sir Trevor McDonald held role as host for the next twelve years until Dermot O’Leary filled the vacancy when he stepped down.
The general public has the chance to vote for their favourite actor/actress, drama, newcomer, comedy series, serial drama and also a special recognition award that has come to people like David Jason and John Thaw. More categories have been added over the years but one of the biggest battles is between the soaps and the award for Best Serial Drama.
